Identification of Gene Related to Prostate Cancer

A new oncogene associated with prostate cancer has been identified.

The discovery of the PTI-1 oncogene paves the way for the development of diagnostic tests that may provide earlier detection and more reliable staging of prostate cancer. Clinical trials based on PTI-1 technology could begin within one year.

Researchers from the College of Physicians & Surgeons at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, New York, New York, report their findings in the July 18, 1995, issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
