Selective expression of therapeutic genes within tumor cells is a required property for the successful use of gene transfer to sensitize tumors to specific chemotherapies. One flexible method of tumor targeting is the application of tissue- or tumor-specific promoters to encourage toxin gene expression within a specific target tissue.
