Aruna Nathan, Harvard-Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and colleagues reported what they believe is the first report describing extravascular cell implants as controlling vasculoproliferative disease ("Tissue Engineered Perivascular Endothelial Cell Implants Regulate Vascular Injury," Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, August 1995;92:8130-8134).
