Gene Found That Causes Inherited Cancer

Researchers say they have discovered a mutant gene that causes an inherited syndrome of pancreatic cancer, malignant melanoma and oral cancer.

This defect in the human genetic blueprint passes from parent to child, causing tumors to develop within a family, the scientists from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, reported in the October 12, 1995, issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.
