Expression of bcl-xs Purges Cancer Contaminated Bone Marrow

Adenovirus mediated transfection of bcl-xs in autologous bone marrow selectively induces apoptosis in cancer cells without damaging hematopoietic normal cells.

bcl-2 belongs to a family of genes that modulates apoptosis. Many solid tumors that express bcl-2 resist apoptotic signals, even those normally induced by chemotherapy and/or radiation.
