Results of Stem Cell Gene Therapy Trial Presented

Somatix Therapy Corp., Alameda, California, and Baxter Healthcare Corp. announced that their collaborator, Harry Malech, M.D. of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID), a part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), presented preliminary results of a gene therapy trial at the American Society of Hematology conference, held in Seattle, Washington.

Malech has treated the first patients in a novel Phase I clinical trial of progenitor cell gene therapy for the rare hereditary disorder, chronic granulomatous disease (CGD). In the five patient trial, three patients are far enough into treatment for analysis and preliminary evaluation. ...
