According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 44th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, held November 17-21, 1995, in San Antonio, Texas, "We have previously shown that retroviral-mediated transfer of a human multidrug resistance 1 (MDR1) gene can protect transplanted mice against taxol-induced myelosuppression, suggesting this approach could be used to reduce hematopoietic toxicity associated with cancer chemotherapy.
