Curran, until recently head of the AIDS prevention effort at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is now with the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia.
In a plenary address at the opening of the Eighth Annual Meeting of the National Cooperative Vaccine Development Groups for AIDS (NCVDG), held February 11-15, 1996, in Bethesda, Maryland, Curran stressed the importance of preventing new HIV infections.
