Many methods and techniques have been developed for in vivo gene transfer. Viral-mediated gene transfer has its drawbacks due to complications of the viral vector. Although plasmid-mediated gene transfer is economical, easy to use, and avoids many of the problems of virus-mediated gene transfer, it is not as efficient or site specific as it could be.
