According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 10th International Congress of Endocrinology, sponsored by the International Society of Endocrinology and the Endocrinology Society, held June 12-15, 1996, in San Francisco, California, "Zfhep is a transcription factor which binds to thyroid hormone (T3 ) response elements (TREs) of the (alpha)-subunit, (beta)-thyrotropin, and rat growth hormone genes. In rats, Zfhep mRNA is highly expressed in the brain. Therefore, we examined whether human Zfhep mRNA expression is altered in brain tumors, and whether Zfhep plays a role in tumor cell division.
