Benefits of placental-blood transplantation in siblings and unrelated recipients support the establishment of placental-blood banks to facilitate transplantation on a large scale.

These banks would have features that set them apart from conventional blood banks, and numerous challenges are presented, indicated Leslie E. Silberstein, M.D., and Leigh C.
