"Use of Chimeric Viruses Between HIV-1 and HIV-2 to Study env Regions Responsible for Resistance to an Amphotericin B Derivative."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 1996 meeting on Retroviruses, sponsored by Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, held May 21-26, 1996, in Cold Spring Harbor, New York, "A water-soluble amphotericin B derivative, MS-8209, blocks HIV-1 entry after CD4 binding and before membrane fusion, although it does not block syncytia formation. A HIV-2RODCEM, produced in chronically infected CEM cells, is totally resistant to the compound. However, other viruses, HIV-2EHO and more surprisingly, HIV-2RODTM23, produced by transfection of molecular clone HIV-2ROD, are sensitive.
