Adenovirus-Mediated IL-12 Gene Therapy for Metastatic Colon Cancer

Intratumoral administration of an interleukin 12 (IL-12) cytokine expressing adenovirus vector resulted in significantly increased survival in a murine model of metastatic colon cancer.

Recent research has demonstrated the antitumoral effect of retrovirally-mediated suicide gene therapy using herpes simplex virus 1/thymidine kinase (HSV/tk) followed by ganciclovir administration as well as the immunotherapeutic effects of retroviral-mediated transduction of murine interleukin-2 (mIL-2). In addition, both techniques have been tested using adenoviral vectors with a certain degree of success in some animal models.
