Cytofectins are a class of cationic lipids that provide a synthetic alternative to viral vectors for in vivo gene delivery. The lipids are formulated to combine with DNA to form complexes which are capable of delivering genes into cells. Lipid-DNA complexes could become a preferred delivery method for gene therapy due to their potential safety advantages and ease of manufacture.
