Parvovirus Mediates Improved Sensitization of Chemotherapeutics

A non-pathogenic human parvovirus can sensitize cancer cells to cytotoxic drugs.

Chemotherapy of human cancers often is limited by the increasing resistance of tumor cells in the dose range which can be tolerated by patients. The challenge of cancer therapy has lead researchers to devise new ways of protecting the patient against cytotoxic effects, to develop new therapies, and to sensitize specifically the cancer cells to the cytotoxic effects of current chemotherapeutics.
