According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the Midwestern Regional Meeting or the Eastern Regional Meeting of the American Federation for Clinical Research, held September 19-21, 1996, in Chicago, Illinois, and October 4-5, 1996, in Boston, Massachusetts, respectively, "Gene transfer and expression in mature antitumor effector cells such as lymphokine activated killer (LAK) cells or tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL) have proved difficult due to low efficiency, loss of fractionality during ex vivo expansion, and expense.
