According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 38th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Hematology, held December 6-10, 1996, in Orlando, Florida, "Background: Adeno-associated virus (MV) is a single-stranded DNA parvovirus which has advantageous features as a gene transfer vector like its ability to transduce terminally differentiated non-dividing cells, its lack of pathogenicity, its low immunogenicity, and a relatively stable transgene expression.
