According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 38th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Hematology, held December 6-10, 1996, in Orlando, Florida, "Ara-C is a highly effective drug in hematologic malignancies such as leukemia and lymphoma. Myelosuppression represents a major side effect. Intracellular CDD detoxifies ara-C to ara-U and we have previously shown overexpression of this gene in murine fibroblasts to increase resistance to Ara-C.
