"Bone Marrow Purging of Residual Breast Cancer by Adenoviral Transfer of the HSVtk Gene."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 38th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Hematology, held December 6-10, 1996, in Orlando, Florida, "High dose chemotherapy with autologous bone marrow transplant support has become an important treatment for patients with breast cancer. A limitation of BMT, however, is the potential contamination of the autologous graft with residual tumor cells (MRD). We have created a MRD purging technique based on the ability of a recombinant adenoviral vector (ad-v) to efficiently infect breast cancer cells but not hematopoietic cells.
