"Recombinant Leishmanial Antigens in Vaccine Development."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 45th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, held December 1-5, 1996, in Baltimore, Maryland, "We have used several methods to select leishmanial antigens as vaccine candidates. Recombinant antigens were initially identified by expression cloning or by reverse genetic approaches. Three antigens were selected for further development based upon their abilities to stimulate desired immune responses in leishmaniasis patient cells as well as to elicit Th1 associated responses from lymphocytes from infected BALB/c mice.
