According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the Ninth Symposium on HIV Infection entitled From Virology ... To Therapy, held March 6-8, 1997, in Toulon, France, "The purpose of this study was to generate HIV-1 variants resistant to novel nucleoside analogues and identify mutations within the RT gene which confer resistance. The enantiomers of 2',3'-dideoxy-3'-oxa-4'-thiocytidine and their 5-fluoro analogues are cytidine analogues which demonstrate anti-viral activity in vitro. The infectious clone HIV HXB2D was passaged in MT-4 cells in increasing concentrations of (-) dOTFC and (+) dOTC and resistant variants were generated. The RT genes of the resistant viruses were...
