Ribozyme Therapy (HCV)

"Cleavage of Viral RNA and Inhibition of Viral Translation by Hepatitis C Virus-Specific Hammerhead Ribozyme In Vitro."

Published in Gene Therapy Weekly, May 12th, 1997

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 4th International Meeting on Hepatitis C Virus and Related Viruses, Molecular Virology and Pathogenesis, held March 6-10, 1997, in Kyoto, Japan, "A hammerhead ribozyme has been used as a new way to suppress specific gene expression. We designed hepatitis C virus (HCV)-specific hammerhead ribozymes and investigated their cleavage efficiency and inhibitory effect on viral translation in vitro. Three hammerhead ribozymes (Rz408, Rz584, and Rz708) bearing different cleavage sites in the core region of HCV RNA, and a negative control ribozyme (NRz), whose flanking sequences were not complementary to any RNA sequences, were constructed. ...
