Examinations of p53 have shown that it is a multifunctional molecule. Its functions include regulation of cell cycle, apoptosis, and angiogenesis as a transcriptional factor.
Masahiko Nishizaki, representing colleagues from the Okayama University Medical School, Japan, and the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Texas, presented data regarding the angiogenic factor of p53 gene therapy at the American Association for Cancer Research conference, held April 12-16, 1997, in San Diego, California.
