According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the Keystone Symposia on Molecular and Cellular Biology entitled Discovery and Development of Novel Therapeutic Agents for the 21st Century, Sponsored by Pfizer, Inc., held March 16-21, 1997, in Tamarron, Colorado, "Intramuscular injection of naked plasmid DNA results in transfection of muscle cells in vivo and is an effective means of inducing protective cell-mediated and humoral immune responses.
