According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 97th General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology, held May 4-8, 1997, in Miami Beach, Florida, "Vaccination of mice with plasmid DNA encoding the gene for the major secreted mycobacterial antigen 85A from M. tuberculosis is a powerful technique for generating robust specific Th1 helper T cell responses, CD8+ mediated cytotoxicity and protection against M. tuberculosis challenge (Huygen et al., Nature Medicine 2:893, 1996).
