Trial Demonstrates Positive Safety Profile and Tumor Regression in Several Cancers

Researchers from the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center reported that the first Adenoviral-p53 (Ad-p53) gene therapy study using the tumor suppressor p53 gene was well-tolerated and showed evidence of clinical activity in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer.

Additionally, the treatment appeared to be more active when used in combination with a common chemotherapeutic agent, cisplatin.

Their work was presented at the 33rd Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), held in Denver, Colorado, May 17-20, 1997.
