Strategic Alliance Extension Announced in Genetic Study

Algene Biotechnologies Corp., Montreal, Quebec, Canada, announced that it and Janssen Pharmaceutica N.V., a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, have agreed to further extend their scientific collaboration for the identification of genes that cause schizophrenia.

Under the terms of this extension, Algene undertakes a series of gene mapping experiments to identify chromosomal regions that could harbor causal genes in schizophrenia.

In the framework of the collaboration originally established in 1995 with Janssen, Algene applied its technology platform to select cases of schizophrenia and to initiate causal gene mapping experimentation. A first...
