U.S. Patent Awarded for tub Genes Covering Obesity

Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Cambridge, Massachusetts, announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted to Millennium a patent covering tub genes - genes believed to play an important role in causing obesity.

The patent entitled, "Mammalian Tub Gene," covers the following compositions of matter: mammalian tub genes, tub gene fragments, vectors containing tub sequences and host cells containing tub genes and gene sequences. This new patent is based on Millennium's pioneering work in cloning and characterizing the mouse tub gene, as well as the corresponding human gene.
