"Targeted Gene Delivery to Melanoma by Melanocortins Coupled to Polylysine/DNA Complexes."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the meeting Vector Targeting Strategies for Therapeutic Gene Delivery, held March 14-16, 1997, in Cold Spring Harbor, New York, "We investigated the feasibility of targeting plasmid DNA to melanoma cells in culture by condensing DNA with polycations and coupling melanocortin peptides to the condensed particle surface. We used Concanavalin A (ConA) and transferrin (Tf) as controls for ligand-mediated delivery, and compared the efficiency of these systems with various cationic lipid/DNA complexes. Polylysine (pL), polylysine-streptavidin (pL-SA) or polylysine-transferrin (pL-Tf) was flash-mixed with a reporter plasmid (pRSVlacZ). ...
