"DNA Vaccines Against TB."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the conference Vaccines Beyond 2000, held July 6-9, 1997, in Queensland, Australia, "Until recently it was thought that acquired immunity against tuberculosis depended entirely on generating antigen specific CD4+/CD8- T cells that produced interferon-gamma to activate macrophages to kill the mycobacteria. However, there is increasing evidence that major contributors to the final expression of protection are antigen-specific cytotoxic T cells that lyse infected macrophages, at least in mice.
