Adv-Mediated HSV-TK/GCV Therapy Promising in Preclinical Testing

Researchers from The Netherlands have pursued in detail the efficacy of adenovirus (Adv)-mediated herpes simplex virus-thymidine kinase (HSV-TK)/Ganciclovir (GCV) suicide gene therapy in preclinical models of central nervous system (CNS) malignancies.

Numerous studies have explored HSV-TK suicide gene therapy in various cancer models, both in vitro and in vivo, using several different vectors and promoters. However, adenoviral-mediated HSV-TK/GCV suicide gene therapy has not been effectively addressed in the literature for human CNS malignancies.
