"Melanoma Cell Hybrids as Cancer Vaccines."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 88th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research, held April 12-16, 1997, in San Diego, California, "Previous studies have shown that injection of experimental mice with semiallogeneic tumor cell hybrids results in a potent activation of the immune response against a tumorigenic challenge with unmodified tumor cells. Based on the results of these and other reports, here proposed is a novel therapeutic vaccine for melanoma based on irradiated tumor cell hybrids obtained from the fusion of patient-derived melanoma cells with an established allogeneic cell line (FO-1) deficient in (beta)2 -microglobulin. ...
