Adenovirus-Mediated Gene Therapy for Auditory System Studied

Successful adenovirus-mediated gene transfer in a deafened guinea pig model provides hope for future gene therapy of the auditory system.

Extending previous research, Melissa A. Weiss and colleagues from the University of Michigan Medical School investigated the ex vivo gene transfer of fibroblasts and the results of introduction of these cells in vivo to the cochlea ("Viral-Mediated Gene Transfer in the Cochlea," International Journal of Developmental Neuroscience, 1997;15(4/5):577-83).
