Melanoma Vaccine (Clinical Trial)

Phase I Trial of Autologous Melanoma Vaccine Terminated

A Phase I clinical trial of autologous interleukin-2 (IL-2)-expressing vaccines in stage IV melanoma patients has been terminated in Austria.

In collaboration with researchers G. Stingl of Vienna and B. Brocker of Wurzburg, Austria, Walter Schmidt and colleagues from the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology, Vienna, Austria, presented the trial results at the 3rd European Conference on Gene Therapy of Cancer, held September 11-13, 1997, in Berlin, Germany, ("Cellular and Cell-Free Cancer Vaccines," Cancer Gene Therapy, September/October 1997;4(5)). Of the 43 patients recruited for the trial, 14 were evaluable.
