According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the Gene Therapy of Cancer VI conference, held November 20-22, 1997, in San Diego, California, "Cancer gene therapy frequently involves genetic modification or gene transfer directly into tumor cells, and thus requires tumor cells to be procured, established in culture, and effectively transfected with the gene of interest.
