"Endothelial Cells Genetically Modified to Produce Gamma Interferon Inhibit Tumor Growth in SCID Mice."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the Gene Therapy of Cancer VI conference, held November 20-22, 1997, in San Diego, California, "Cancer gene therapy frequently involves genetic modification or gene transfer directly into tumor cells, and thus requires tumor cells to be procured, established in culture, and effectively transfected with the gene of interest. Targeting gene transfer into endothelial cells offers many advantages over this approach. Large numbers of human microvessel endothelial cells can be easily obtained from the subcutaneous fat of every individual and propagated for several weeks in culture.
