"Combination Gene Therapy for Hepatocellular Carcinoma Using Herpes Simplex Virus Thymidine Kinase and Interleukin-2 Gene."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 48th Annual Meeting of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, held November 7-11, 1997 in Chicago, Illinois, "Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has been known to arise multi-centrically in the chronically diseased liver such as cirrhosis and chronic hepatitis. It is often complicated with intra- and extra-hepatic metastasis, resulting in difficulty of curing HCC. In this study, we analyze the effect of cancer vaccine induced by the gene therapy using herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase (HSV-tk) and interleukin-2 (IL-2) gene on the distant tumor growth.
