NIH Funds Study to Examine HRT Role in Preventing Alzheimer's

The U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded funding to researchers at Kaiser Permanente, the University of Southern California (USC) Alzheimer's Disease Research Center and the University of Washington, Seattle, to conduct a comprehensive study of Hormone Replacement Therapy and Alzheimer's Disease.

"Previous small studies suggest HRT may help prevent Alzheimer's and memory loss, but none of the studies has proved conclusive. We will conduct an epidemiological study of thousands of women, which should bring us much closer to a definitive answer," said Diana Petitti, M.D., Southern California Permanente Medical Group.
