Gene Therapy Program Expanded

Genzyme General, Cambridge, Massachusetts, announced an expansion of its cardiovascular gene therapy program through two separate agreements with scientists at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Boston, Massachusetts, and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland.

Both agreements involve the development of gene therapy products to treat occlusive vascular disease, or blockage of the blood vessels of the heart and legs.

Occlusive vascular disease is commonly treated by either bypass surgery or angioplasty. Genzyme is seeking to develop treatments which either augment or supplement these established modes of therapy for...
