Delayed Targeting of Nonresponsive CD Cells Enhances Transduced Gene Expression

The prolonged stimulation of primitive hematopoietic progenitor cells is necessary to achieve retroviral-mediated gene transfer into cells that are capable of sustaining long-term hematopoiesis in vitro, study findings indicate.

Primitive hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPCs) are potential targets for the treatment of numerous hematopoietic diseases, by using retroviral-mediated gene transfer (RMGT). To achieve high efficiency of gene transfer into primitive HPCs, a delicate balance between cellular activation and proliferation and maintenance of hematopoietic potential must be established.
