According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 1998 Annual Meeting of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, held November 15-19, 1998, in San Francisco, California, "Purpose: Recently, we cloned the first human organic cation transporter, hOCT1. hOCT1 is expressed primarily in the liver and plays an important role in the disposition of various xenobiotics. The purpose of the current study was to determine whether hOCT1 is involved in the elimination of HIV protease inhibitors.
