"Chimeric Yellow Fever-Japanese Encephalitis Vaccine is Safe and Effective in a Monkey Model."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 47th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, that was to have been held October 18-22, 1998, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, "A chimeric YF/JE vaccine was constructed by insertion of the prME genes of the attenuated vaccine strain (SA14-142) of JE virus into the nonstructural and core genes of a yellow fever (YF) 17D infectious clone. Comparative neurovirulence of the YF/JE chimera and commercial YF 17D vaccine was assessed by intracerebral inoculation of rhesus monkeys.
