Scientist Says He Cloned Calf from Adult Cow Cell

A scientist in South Korea said he has cloned a calf from the cell of an adult cow using techniques developed to produce Dolly the sheep.

Hwang Woo-Suk, a veterinarian at Seoul National University, said he has 24 more cows pregnant with genetic duplicates of five cows that have all proven to be excellent milk and meat producers.

"My goal is to commercialize cloning technology. Farmers could raise genetically superior cows and produce more beef and milk. That in turn will help ease global food problems," Hwang said.
