"Comparison of Cytotoxicity with Ganciclovir and Carbocyclic Deoxyguanosine in HSV-TK-Expressing Human Glioblastoma U251 Cells."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 90th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research, held April 10-14, 1999, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, "We have reported recently that ganciclovir (GCV) was unique in its ability to induce multi-log cytotoxicity in HSV-TK-mediated enzyme-prodrug therapy compared to two other antiviral drugs. We have now identified another drug, D-carbocyclic deoxyguanosine (CdG), which also exhibits multi-log cell killing. A monoclonal culture of HSV-TK-expressing human glioblastoma cells (U251tk) displayed similar sensitivity to CdG and GCV in a clonogenic cell survival assay with IC50 values of 0.09 and 0.05...
