Green Fluorescent Protein Stimulates Immune Response

Green fluorescent protein (GFP) stimulates an immune response when used in vivo for gene transfer protocols; but what may be a detriment to the gene therapy may be a boon to cancer therapy.

R. Stripecke and colleagues from the Children's Hospital at Los Angeles and the University of Southern California School of Medicine, California, investigated GFP in vivo for any potential immune response ("Immune Response to Green Fluorescent Protein: Implications for Gene Therapy," Gene Therapy, July 1999;6(7):1305-12).
