AFP Antisense ODNs with 5-FU Inhibits Hepatoma Growth

Alphafetoprotein (AFP) antisense phosphorothioate oligodeoxynucleotides (ODNs) combined with the chemotherapeutic drug 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) inhibits human hepatoma cell growth in vitro.

X.W. Wang and colleagues from the Chinese Academy of Science, China, investigated the effect of AFP antisense phosphorothioate oligodeoxynucleotides in combination with 5-FU on the growth of BEL-7404 human hepatoma cells in vitro. Their results were published in the Chinese Medical Journal ("Combined Effect of Alphafetoprotein Antisense Oligodeoxynucleotides and 5-Fluorouracil on Human Hepatoma Cell Growth," Chinese Medical Journal, August 1999;112(8):743-746).
