Local Interferon Engineered by Gene Transfer Safely Halts Malignant Mesothelioma

Locally produced interferon, engineered by gene-transfer methods, can prevent tumor growth in a mouse model of human malignant mesothelioma without causing any obvious side effects, according to research published in the September 1999 issue of the American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology.

Malignant mesothelioma (MM) is an aggressive tumor of the mesothelial lining of the pleura - the delicate membrane covering the lungs and the inner surface of the chest.
