M. Mills and colleagues from the National Museum of Natural History, France, designed a model system which allowed them to set up a competition between the oligonucleotides of the purine and pyrimidine motifs targeting the same Watson-Crick duplex. Their data were published in the Journal of Molecular Biology ("Energetics of Strand-Displacement Reactions in Triple Helices: A Spectroscopic Study," Journal of Molecular Biology, 1999;291(5):1035-1054).
