New Tests Evaluate DNA Triple Helices

A new model system allows researchers to evaluate the stability of DNA triple helices for use in gene inhibition studies.

M. Mills and colleagues from the National Museum of Natural History, France, designed a model system which allowed them to set up a competition between the oligonucleotides of the purine and pyrimidine motifs targeting the same Watson-Crick duplex. Their data were published in the Journal of Molecular Biology ("Energetics of Strand-Displacement Reactions in Triple Helices: A Spectroscopic Study," Journal of Molecular Biology, 1999;291(5):1035-1054).
