Myocardial Angiogenic Gene Expression Tested in Pig Model

Researchers from the United States used a novel catheter-based transendocardial injection system to test the feasibility of myocardial angiogenic gene transfer.

"Angiogenesis has been induced by direct injection of growth factors into ischemic myocardium during open-heart surgery," stated R. Kornowski and colleagues, Washington Hospital Center, Washington, DC. "Catheter-based, transendocardial injection of angiogenic factors may provide equivalent benefit without need of surgery."
