New Gene Delivery Technique Thwarts Blood-Brain Barrier

University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), researchers have developed the first non-invasive method for delivering therapeutic genes into the brain.

This new approach could provide a treatment option for patients suffering from Parkinson's disease, brain cancer, and AIDS, as well as genetic disorders such as Tay-Sachs and Gaucher's disease.

The findings were published in the June 5, 2000, issue of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
