Adenovirus/Interleukin-12 Shows Promise Against Hepatocellular Carcinoma

- Sonia Nichols, staff medical writer -- A new way of treating hepatocellular carcinoma has been discovered by researchers in Spain.

If the results of preliminary tests performed on animals are any indication, this therapy could potentially be used for treating humans some day.

Using genetic manipulation, researchers have introduced interleukin (IL)-12 into an adenovirus in order to target liver cancer cells. This gene therapy, when tested on three animal models, yielded good results, according to study data.

The virus vector, AdCMVIL-12, was administered to animals with large hepatocellular tumors grafted into their livers. ...
